Roberto Pugliese. Digital Bio-acoustics

Roberto Pugliese is a distinguished representative of what is described above. He comes from a musical academic culture, but having soon felt the limits of a single view, he then began to look for other stimuli in the field of visual arts. This should be a reason of pride for the visual field, so often denigrated and abused, and moreover it helps to underline the need to mix different points of view.... READ MORE...

Peter Tscherkassky.audiovisuals From A Darkroom

Let's start from an assumption: I am not a film critic and more in general I do not work exclusively on experimental cinema. This analysis of the avant guard director Peter Tscherkassky, born in Wien in 1958 and winner at the 67th Venice Film Festival in the 'Nuovi Orizzont" section with the film Coming Attractions, will probably lack those lexical elements and elements of analysis used by the most orthodox film criticism, and will inesorably be exposed to a radical reading of the following text. In spite of that, my intention is to highlight the austrian director's work, in terms of the importance that I think it has not only as far as cinema is concerned, but also and especially towards the production and the audiovisual research taken as an aesthetic-expressive possibility of the sound-image relationship.... Audiovisual Parameters. Paul Prudence’s “natural” Structures

Paul Prudence, real-time visual performer, works with procedural systems by exploring structures, graphic and generative potentialities of audiovisual systems. He is extraordinary, educated, intelligent, open-minded and capable of living in more worlds simultaneously, from the live-based media to the graphic art world, keeping his eyes always open wide on forms and composition rules, things that are not so easy to find in the turmoil of modern digital creativity. He is one of those hybrid figures standing on the edge of art and design who are now resorting to data visualization in order to describe, at the crossroads of art and algorithms, the storm of information surrounding us. The results are often unexpected.... READ MORE...

Gob Squad. Neverending Live Cinema

On their website, just after the welcome messages, it says: Gob Squad make performances, videos, installations and weird happenings, mixing performance, theater, film and real life. Apart from the huge variety of artistic practices mentioned, the focus rests immediately on the weird. Indeed, after having had the opportunity to take part in a work of the Anglo-German group, it becomes much easier to understand the reason for that adjective.... READ MORE...

The Lost Cemetery Of Images.a Conversation With Carlos Casas

The use of archive material is a tendency which has established itself in the last few years as a common practice in audiovisual contaminations. It is an ongoing search which paves the road to countless approaches to the work, as well as involving the individuality of the artist in the reprocessing of traces and memories in an imagination which is set on the present. With Cemetery (Archive Works), inaugurated on 28 October and ongoing until 14 January at the Marslleria in Milan, Carlos Casas steps onto this path at its edges, balancing between visual anthropology and rethinking images as a form of trans-cultural memory.... Jason Mena We all shall play in the ruins

Jason Mena's work entails a multi-faceted approach to contemporaneity that, drawn from conceptualism and minimalism, reveals the complexities and contradictions of the ever increasing urbanization of space.
