Joy Ito: On Freedom Of Choice, Namely Creative Commons

It is the talk of the moment. At meetings on the future of music (but also of publishing, cinema, television and visual arts) there is a prevailing topic: the search for new business models for creativity in the age of the digital dematerialization and world wide net; hence the meditation on the necessary changes both in the theoretical and practical approach to copyrights and reproduction... The Recycled Sound Of Teatrino Elettrico Pigreco

Signal is an international avant-garde electronic and experimental music festival, which will take place from the 6th til the 14th of November in its third edition in Cagliari; the idea was produced by TiConZero, an cultural association that for years has been dealing with research in the music, theatrical and artistic fields. Seismographs Of Time. A Conversation With Roberto Paci Dalo’

Among the main figures of contemporary experimentation, Roberto Paci Dal˜ is a director, multimedia artist and composer/performer. He is director and creator of the Giardini Pensili group. His research develops within an area that goes from the development of radio interventions to sound installations; from the development of plays to the building of virtual stages like the Itaca project commissioned by the Teatro di Roma and directed by Mario Martone (1999-2000), passing through the development of the film that, as in the case of Petr˜leo México (2004) was presented at the Locarno International film festival... Thirty Years Of Ars Electronica: The Future Of Man And Nature

The 2009 Ars Electronica will surely be an edition to remember. The festival, which takes place in Linz the first week of September, celebrated its 30th year. Much attention was focused on the little Austrian town for the fact that Linz was chosen as European Culture Capital for 2009, and so it has experienced an intense year, dense with launches and cultural events... Sonar, Enduring Research. Interview With Giorgia Taglietti

This is the beginning of a new season of night music in clubs. This means that the day music festivals have just come to an end. And peace, of course. At the least we must accept life cycles, at the most we may even learn to love them. Yet, although an elaboration and an analysis on the experience that is being lived are possible thanks to the prolonged times of the clubs, we cannot forget that the profound elaboration and the analysis of the festivals represent the explosion and the synthesis of it...... Sommercamp + Workstation. Temporary Autonomous Culture

On the 16th of August Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin hosted the presentation of works created during the course of six days of intensive workshops within the Sommercamp Workstation project, an event conceived as a mobile laboratory for art and media, which came about from the very important experience of the ex-research centre Tesla Medialab (www.tesla-berlin.de), a project that lasted four months and was situated in various places in the heart of Berlin.... Soundclusters: Robotic Electronica

Soundclusters is 'an ensemble of four robots (violin, viola, cello and percussion) created by the multidisciplinary artist Roland Olbeter, that you 'play' through a midi controller. Through a commission by the festival Faster than Sound (UK) and Sonar (ES), the two 'sonic adventurers' Tim Exile (Warp) and Jon Hopkins (Domino) have collaborated with Olbeter (already active in the past as a set designer for some works of interactive theater for an important performance by Marcel Antúnez Roca, including aphasia from which the instrumentation of Soundclaster was created). Together the group have made a new work for this mechanical band, creating the conditions for a unique experience of co-operation between live music, man and machine, and for an exciting spectacle... The Sound Ecosystems Of Agostino Di Scipio

Those who know me and my interests can imagine my reaction when I was asked to write the catalog of the exhibition Digital Direct di Modena, curated by Caleffi Gilberto. One of the artists I was most interested in was Agostino di Scipio, and this is evident in any analysis of the texts chosen for the catalogue: where the interview, as a reflection on the content exposed to direct contact with the author, becomes a moment of openness and honesty between artist and critic.... The Sonic Orgasm Of Claudio Rocchetti

For some time now Claudio Rocchetti has been one of the most active and interesting electronic musicians in national and European scenes: be it because of his research on sound, as an emotional and compositional element, but also materially on analogical and electronic instruments, or because of his technical, improvisational and expressive capabilities be it in the studio or live, and the tight net of collaborations and participants active between Bologna and Berlin.... Esther Manas & Arash Moori: Sound & Sculpture

Last month Digimag devoted a section to Domenico Quaranta, curator of one of the two parts of the section Expanded Box at Arco Madrid 2009. Among the very heterogeneous works on show, encompassing different languages and media, one in particular represents in my opinion one of the exhibition's highlights: the work Every Man and Woman is a Star, by the two artists Esther Manas and Arash Moori...
