If Not You Not Me. Annie Abrahams And Life In Networks

Annie Abrahams's show If Not You Not Me at the HTTP Gallery in London (12 February till 20 March 2010) was inspiring in its subtle, low-tech sensitivity of inter-connectedness. This was Abrahams's, a French-based pioneer in the field of networked performance, first solo show in the UK. Abrahams created three new works for the show. Documentation of several of her previous projects, including some of her most well known pieces such as One the Puppet of Other (2007) and The Big Kiss (2008), was also effectively displayed.... A Year Of Arts Santa Monica. An Interview To Vicenc Altaio’

The new Arts Santa M˜nica of 2010 in Barcelona began with new stimuli for creativity and discussion. Fresh with new mentalities, a new spirit and new aspirations, Arts Santa M˜nica, an old convent situated on the emblematic Rambla and just a stone's throw from the sea, now passes on to a new stage in its history, which is dedicated to interdisciplinary issues connected to art, science and communication.... Decode Exhibition. Software Art At Victoria & Albert Museum

When is a work of art a design object? When it has a utilitarian purpose? When it has no purpose but is designed to encapsulate a concept that relates to human experience and attempting to capture something about the essence of our existence? Or when the sign on the gallery wall says so? This was the first question that crossed my mind when I arrived the the Victoria & Albert Museum in London to view the Decode exhibition. The exhibition ran from 8th December 2009 until 11th April 2010... READ MORE...

The Influencers 2010: Art, Action, Disobedience And Alchemy

Heroes? Not really, according to them. They do what we all could do, what we all should maybe do: to denounce, inform, express ourselves, find our spaces, make our voice being heard (especially when who should be representing us, does not actually do it at all) and yet defend freedom, enjoy ourselves, try to be fine and take charge of the consequences of our lifestyle over human kind and the environment. Without being afraid, without being submissive, get what is ours, in a creative way, in a cultuerd, artistic way.... READ MORE...

Body, Cyborg, Robot In Lugano. Interaction Between Mechanical & Organic

Primary and basic technology become works of art capable of playing with our passion for machinary and technology, a form of "pain" that we feel with and through our bodies. Simplicity is at the heart of Macchina Inutile (Useless Machine), an almost inconsistent assembly of delicate stems and coloured metal pieces built on to a spinning structure that slowly speeds down... Art Tech Media 2009. Sci-fi Journey Between Science & Culture

After a year of intense activity, including Espacio Enter in Tenerife in September, the European Congress at the Guggenheim in Bilbao in October, the continuation of project emc27 and the preparation of an experimental research centre also in Tenerife, and some other art projects in progress (not least the forthcoming further edition of the Nomadas project), the tireless Montse Arbelo and Joseba Franco concluded their 2009 with panache in Barcelona with the II International Art Tech Media Congress.... Biennale Performa 09: Alle Radici Del Video E Del Noise

Autunno a New York. Almost Cinema 2009. Looking For The Kinematic Effect

Almost Cinema celebrate this year its fourth birthday and also this year he accompanied the Film Festival of Gent, an exhibition organized by Eva de Groote, curator of the media area at the Center for Art and Culture Vooruit. Happy Birthday Artfutura

Artfutura has just turned 20 (a really venerable age for a festival on such a topic). It celebrated its birthday at the IMAGINA building in Barcelona. For people thinking they were going to miss the traditional Mercat de le Flors (in fact this would have surely been a more adequate location for it) it has in fact turned out to be amusing to attend this festival in the famous catch@22, the district of innovation which has been the subject of a series of debates, an area still gutted due to never-ending work-in-progress but already with a futuristic stamp.... New Educational Models: The Amazing Ciid Institute

I have been in Copenhagen for two months and I haven't seen anything yet: no museums nor exhibitions. It's not that Copenhagen is that big, nor that public transport is inefficient, we are talking about the extremely well-run capital of Denmark; the reason why is that I spend all my time at school. The Copenhagen Institute of Interaction Design (CIID) is a project recently set up by Simona Maschi and Heather Martin. In collaboration with the Danish Design school (DKDS), the CIID offers a year long, intensive master in Interaction Design to a very limited number of students. The educational activity is now in its second year and it is supported by a research laboratory and a consultancy which has contacts with private companies. The program has links with various companies which cooperate with the students and provide research briefs based on the reality of the market.... READ MORE...

Joy Ito: On Freedom Of Choice, Namely Creative Commons

It is the talk of the moment. At meetings on the future of music (but also of publishing, cinema, television and visual arts) there is a prevailing topic: the search for new business models for creativity in the age of the digital dematerialization and world wide net; hence the meditation on the necessary changes both in the theoretical and practical approach to copyrights and reproduction... Reff/rewf. Short Chronicle Of A Contagion

For loyal readers of this magazine, REFF is not new: this symbol perhaps resonates in their ears like an echo family and it is plausible that they may know some or all the story behind it. Me ripercorriamola together in his milestones (1). REFF going to RomaeuropaFakeFactory. REFF is the fake version of (almost) namesake Romaeuropa Web Factory, a competition launched in January 2009 by Telecom Romaeuropa Foundation to support digital creativity.... READ MORE...
