Displace 2.0: Mediation of Sensations. A conversation with Chris Salter

Chris Salter is a media and performance artist, based in Montreal and Berlin. Performance and performativity, as well as interaction with other disciplinary fields or arts are the main aspects and features of his work. Not only from the artistic point of view but also in terms of research. Salter is indeed involved in scientific research projects and publications (we would like to mention here his book published by MIT Press in 2010 Entangled: Technology and the Transformation of Performance)... Backyard Brains: Neuroscience for Fun

The term Crowdscience (that is, the science of people) has recently become a very popular term. It means that people (a nineteenth-century term that perhaps should be replaced with the term "citizens"), by actively taking part in research, can enable discoveries, that would otherwise not be possible with traditional media – for the mental, computational and economic resources they require. It also assumes that first-person participation in scientific projects is one of the few ways to not be relegated on the sidelines of democracy in a society permeated at all levels by scientific and technological knowledge.... Joe Banks: Rorschach Audio. EVP, Psychoacoustics and Auditory Illusions

The so-called Rorschach ink-blot test is a psychodiagnostic method for the analysis of personality named after its inventor: Swiss psychiatrist Hermann Rorschach (1884-1922). During the test, the patient is asked to interpret a series of ten cards with symmetrical colored blots. According to advocates of this diagnostic method, different subjective responses to these ambiguous images – if appropriately registered and analyzed – would reveal the personality profile of the examined subject, as well as any psychiatric diseases or though disorder.... In the series Dialogues on “Bioart”, I will speak about these and other issues with curators, artists, cultural workers and other professionals who deal with "Bioart" in different ways and have been working in this field for a number of years. Through these interviews, I not only want to present them and their work, but also to shed light on their various viewpoints on, and relevant experiences with, the issues being addressed in the so-called "Bioart", in order to bring all this into line with the larger context of the analysis of what "Bioart" as well as the connected issues and questions, actually are... DECiBEL. A melting pot to dance

Within the landscape of the international electronic music Tectonic, a label based in Bristol, has always been very careful in the selection of its artists. Pinch alias Rob Ellis, “the godfather of dubstep” and founder of this label in 2005, doesn't give all his blessings. The last going into the multicolor family is DECiBEL, dj and producer born in London (real name Jay Fontaine) grown up in the sign of the cultural contamination.... READ MORE...
