Kim Asendorf. Censored Censored Chinese News

At a time when the Propaganda Department of the Chinese government has even more power than Prime Minister Wen Jiabao himself, it is worth considering exactly how powerful spin and government propaganda can be in the contemporary world. Of course, the Chinese censorship debate has been argued in many arenas. Certainly, everyone is familiar with the debate's around Google's enforcing of the government's strict censorship laws and then their about-face.... READ MORE...

Saluti da L’Aquila

These are greetings from l'aquila but read them as invitations because you should come to understand not only what nature can do but also what they have been trying to erase from the consciences of us all and therefore come to listen to the silence and to watch time that remained still in a beautiful country that it is now still everywhere and in every direction despite the force of individuals that more than once have become the people and that today have lost the vision of the future even if it has brought us here or at least that is what they are inviting us to believe and thus greetings to everyone from l'aquila so that we can still choose in what to believe.... Memefest: Oliver Vodeb. Critical And Radical Comunication

In a world where communication is more and more rapid and pervasive, we constantly show a deficit of interpretative tools that allow us to really understand this complexity and to interact with it. Many of the institutions traditionally delegated to the production of such tools have gradually shown their inadequacy, crystallizing in purely aesthetic logics and marrying an idea of creativity as a gesture included in itself, which is born and consequently develops independently of the rest in a sort of perfect and pure emptiness.... It is not an exhibition about television, but one conceived from the place of television. Its aim is to study how the diverse ways of grasping images and the life of concepts contribute to tracing the horizon of our cultural present.... READ MORE...

Gmaybe: Be Free, Be Public! What Future For Privacy?

You may have happened to witness the presentation of a new online service. Two young men wearing a t-shirt with the Gmaybe? logo show the exciting benefits of the new frontier of social networks. All the rhetorical promises related to technology are there: they tend to fall into four main categories: democracy, freedom, efficiency and progress. Democracy looks like what everyone will enjoy using the new technologies, thus increasing its own influence on the social environment [...] Freedom is usually presented as the absence of socially restrictive elements (Critical Art Ensemble, The Molecular Invasion. Biotech theory and practices of resistance, Eleuthera, Milano, 2006, pp38-39).... READ MORE...
