Parallel Worlds. The Mysterious Doron Golan

Doron Golan has been making short movies using the QuickTime format for over thirteen years. For most of this period he has been posting his work to the internet. He was a pioneer of net video and his work is profoundly marked by its digital facture and its presence on the net. I believe it to be a body of work of great significance - fearless, rich, human and often profound.... READ MORE...

Art/tapes/22. Interview With Maria Gloria Bicocchi

Between 1972 and 1976, a venue on the ground floor in Via Riccasoli 22, in Firenze, acted as the main setting for one of the key moments that brought about the video art in Italy. At that very address, Maria Gloria Bicocchi and her husband Giancarlo founded art/tapes/22, the center for the moving video, which started in Florence, but then followed the couple as they were traveling to other residences, in Santa Teresa, near Follonica, and Sant’Ippolito, in the Volterra countryside, reaching (complete with tapes and equipment) artists’ studio, galleries and cultural centres in Italy and abroad.... Notes on the Un-documentary. Vision – Rapresentation – Ricreation

This article is the result of a series of theoretical discussions coming out from my research in the cinema-documentary field. These lines are meant to suggest a broader lecture of documentary-making activity. Through the relations that the idea of documentary establishes with photography, fiction, identity and performance, I would like to deconstruct its meaning and make it a source of philosophical research, opening discussions about technical matters that lead to new styles and methods of realization.... Certain Pleasure. Zhang Peili And Electronic Media

Zhang Peili is an enigmatic figure: while he is widely respected in China as a pioneering video artist and a progenitor of the use of electronic media in the wake of the 85 New Wave movement of the mid-1980s, his international reputation relies primarily on a small number of survey exhibitions motivated by multicultural agendas and staged amidst work of vastly divergent practical initiatives.... The Image Of Sound. Yuri Ancarani’s Stomach

Yuri Ancarani (Ravenna, 1972) likes to define himself a visual artist/film maker. He developed his research by starting studying his territory, the land where he was born: the Riviera Romagnola. As for his music video Vicino al Cuore (2003), work that he claims to love the most, or Kras (Bora, 2011) or Carrara caves (Il Capo, 2010), he always succeeds to catch the invisible aspect that transmits to the public the meaning of those places.... Critical Fusion. Interview To Maurice Benayoun

Maurice Benayoun is one of the most experienced among digital media artists, both in France and abroad. Principally known as an interactive artist, his research course on visual art and video started from documentary experiences, as testified by his documentaries and video installations about the most influent contemporary artists in the Eighties.
