Sound

Zimoun & Leerraum [ ]. Sound Organisms In Evolution

The Swiss artist Zimoun claims he is an autodidact. During the following interview he will make clear he didn't study art and he doesn't have a solid background at his disposal, and least of all he never thought about confronting himself with other artistic or vanguard movements which came before him. As this article is trying to focus on, he is one the most interesting and visionary artist of our time. In the sound art international panorama, he is one of a kind for his research on the expressive potentialities of analogical (mechanical) sound in relation to the space, as well as for his aesthetical analysis on a possible visual translation of the sound mechanism implied by his works.... Parasol Elektroniczny Rumors from the Eastern underground

The first episode of the "Parasol Elektroniczny. Rumors from the Eastern underground" series is an exception in two regards. Firstly, as I happened to be on a journey to Tallinn at that time, Felix Kubin conducted the interviews with the artists himself. This task is usually carried out by our umbrella agents. The second unusual feature is its duration. At over 80 minutes, it could almost be considered a double feature. However, television pilot programs are often longer than their follow-ups, and I don't see any reason why this should not apply to audio features too. Also, the Estonian episode is a good introduction to the vibrancy and variety of the Eastern European underground scene.... READ MORE...

Voice is our means of communication. Voices inform us about what it happens in the flat next to ours, in the streets or in the car. Different worlds of expression sharing the same common idea: they are expression of the voice.... READ MORE...

Vns By David Rokeby. Seeking For An Harmonics Of Interaction

When aboarding the subject of interactive sound installation it is natural to turn to David Rokeby's work (1960, Tillsonburg, Ontario). If one thinks back to the line of research that was based upon the Sound Sculpture study in order to find a definition for Sound Art, knowledge of Rokeby's Very Nervous System (1986-1990) and his theory of harmonics of interaction' is fundamental for an understanding on the relationship between sound, movement, space and technology.... Organic Resonances. On Ginette Laurin

As one of the most relevant figures in the international scene, choreographer Ginette Laurin - founder of Canadian group O Vertigo, based in Montreal - is committed since the eighties to a radical research on movement, which she combines with an investigation on the stage mechanism both sound and chromatically-wise. Influenced by an extensive research on physicality, Laurin created a very specific language for 'writing' movement, which tends to deconstruct its features by working on dynamics of slowness and speed in the spacial organization of the scene....
