In the context of this year’s thematic preoccupation with the human body at the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation, the Bauhaus Study Rooms 2023 are focusing on the topic of performativity as an integral component of design processes and design activities. The two-day mini festival conducted by the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation in cooperation with the Anhalt University of Applied Sciences and the Cluster of Excellence “Matters of Activity” at Humboldt University Berlin explores—in different formats and learning environments—performative methods in design. Design is viewed as a reciprocal process and a corporeal activity. In keynote speeches and roundtable discussions, alumnx of the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation’s education programmes and other international guests discuss questions of co-creation and co-production, as well as the relevance of embodied knowledges for design practices. Complemented by performative exercises, guided tours, and experimental workshops, the participants investigate the extent to which performative methods contribute to new approaches that develop design as a field embracing the heterogeneous potentials of a socially inclusive and environmentally just cultural practice.
The event will be held on site at the Bauhaus Dessau Building, the TA T Berlin, and the Matters of Activity Zentrallabor in Berlin. For a detailed schedule and more information, see here or send an e-mail to studyrooms [at] bauhaus-dessau.de.
