Paolo Cirio. When Stealing Becomes Art

The engineer figure described by Walter Benjamin reminds the 'tactical' art by Paolo Cirio, who contributes to transform the meaning of the artistic practice from within, by unveiling the unsolved knots in the art field. Through his artworks, Paolo Cirio (http://www.paolocirio.net) intervenes tactically locating some plugs of a puzzle which can be finished only by directly involving its referents, being them either corporations, media apparatuses, or the so-called network 'users'.... The art of hacking

The art of Hacking focuses on the artistic side of hacking. The artists in this exhibition highlight the imperfections of our surroundings and daily lives. The projects subvert, improve on or circumnavigate ëofficialí systems and practices and offer alternatives. Superficially, hacking is often associated with spreading online viruses and other digital attacks. Officially these criminal activities are not really known as hacking, but as ëcrackingí. The real practice of hacking is done based on far more positive and artistic motives. Itís a state of mind and there are elaborate ethical codes within the hacker community.... READ MORE...

Memefest: Oliver Vodeb. Critical And Radical Comunication

In a world where communication is more and more rapid and pervasive, we constantly show a deficit of interpretative tools that allow us to really understand this complexity and to interact with it. Many of the institutions traditionally delegated to the production of such tools have gradually shown their inadequacy, crystallizing in purely aesthetic logics and marrying an idea of creativity as a gesture included in itself, which is born and consequently develops independently of the rest in a sort of perfect and pure emptiness.... Passages. Travels In Hyperspace

The exhibition Passages. Travels in Hyperspace (16.10.2010 - 21.02.2011), clearly represents an attempt for the LABoral Centro de Arte y Creación industrial of Gijon, Asturias, to make a qualitative leap. It doesn't mean that previous exhibitions were less ambitious - the big events the center has been hosting, starting with the first productive effort (Feedback, 2007), have few equal in the world. Indeed, the Spanish center has been curated by the world best curators (from Christiane Paul to Steve Dietz and Susanne Jaschko) who have been able to create projects that could not be conceived anywhere else....
