luglio-ottobre 2023

SAM Contemporaries is a biennial project by Singapore Art Museum (SAM) that spotlights emerging practices and generative trends in Singapore contemporary art.

SAM Contemporaries continues the museum’s commitment to supporting artists’ practices and charting significant developments in contemporary art. Fuelled by collective research, this series is conceived as a platform for artistic and curatorial experimentation, informed by conversations, exchanges and collaborations between curators and artists. Emerging from these collective dialogues are presentations of works and processes that puts forth current trajectories in artistic and curatorial thinking.

The inaugural edition, SAM Contemporaries: Residues & Remixes, features six Singapore-based artists, Yeyoon Avis Ann, Anthony Chin, Priyageetha Dia, Fyerool Darma, Khairulddin Wahab and Moses Tan.

SAM Contemporaries: Residues & Remixes showcases artists who adopt new methods and approaches rooted in de- and post-colonial perspectives while also engaging with everyday experiences and materials of our time. Migration and cultural flows have long defined Singapore’s history, landscape, memories and economies. The first edition ponders the impact of historical remnants on the present and the influence of new technologies on how we see, experience, and understand the world.

SAM Contemporaries: Residues & Remixes publication
Expanding on ideas from the artworks in the exhibition, the publication provides additional context to the artistic practices and curatorial approaches through documentation, field notes, scholarly essays, speculations, and conversations of various forms (and formalities) between artists and curators.

Marking the launch of the exhibition publication for SAM Contemporaries: Residues & Remixes will be a two-day lineup of discursive artist-led programmes, performances, and a workshop, held on 28 and 29 July 2023 at SAM at Tanjong Pagar Distripark.
