Each year, TodaysArt invites a selection of renowned, pioneering and cutting-edge artists and musicians in contemporary electronic music and audiovisual art to present their latest creations.
TodaysArt has been invading the city center of The Hague each year. Since 2005 it has developed into one of the key events for contemporary visual and performing arts and e-culture worldwide. In the framework of the tenth edition, a program has been composed consisting of four evening programs in the brand new main hall of the Zuiderstrandtheater, the only theatre in the Netherlands that is situated at the beach.
The program includes some of the most acclaimed sound artists in the contemporary music scene and pioneers of musical experimentation in dialogue with a younger generation of artists. In addition, three club nights will be organized to showcase some of the best live acts and DJ’s in today’s international music scene.
Exclusives performances
The festival will host two special concerts on the opening night featuring Ben Frost and Tim Hecker. NONOTAK will present their performance ‘Late Speculation’; a synchronistic exploration of electronic music and dynamic, linear visuals of widths in flux. German musician and composer Nils Frahm, who has been this year’s favorite at many festivals, is one of the headliners of the festival. T
odaysArt will present Dutch premieres like SOHN and Planningtorock and key figures of contemporary electronic music like Charlemagne Palestine (along with Mika Vainio and Eric Thielemans) will be present to deliver particular contributions. This program is a mixture of rare techno-electronic experimentations and highly danceable music and will be closed by none other than the prolific producer and dj Tadd Mullinix under his JTC (James T. Cotton) moniker.
The main club program on Friday will be highly energetic and eclectic. Electronic singer-songwriter and video artist Planningtorock opens the night with an operatic post-punk performance. Torus presents the world premiere of his new live audiovisual show. The brilliant Fatima Al Qadiri will take the stage, as well as the bass-oriented Sarah Farina. The Gaslamp Killer is also on board to confront you with his ecstatic appearance.
