Worlds in the Making explores the mysterious and dramatic, violent origins and manifestations of our planet, in the form of volcanoes, lava landscapes, ash clouds, rocks and minerals. Semiconductor use the language and tools of science not to define, control and tame the natural world, but to produce a science fiction, stripping back the nature of how we experience the world and leaving us to question our place in the physical universe.
Curated by Omar Kholeif and Jacqui Davies and supported by Arts Council England. Worlds in the Making is commissioned by Jacqui Davies and FACT. The exhibition is made possible by the support of: The Gulbenkian Galapagos Artists’ Residency Programme and Smithsonian Artists Research Fellowship.

Tracing the history of animation over the last 150 years, Watch Me Move: The Animation Show brings together for the first time, contemporary artists, cut-out, collage, puppet, clay and stop-motion animators, auteur filmmakers and exponents of experimental film alongside the creative output of the commercial studios. Curated by Greg Hilty.
Other artists, film-makers and studios include: Aardman, Walt Disney, Studio Ghibli, Fleischer Studios, Eadward Muybridge, Lumière Brothers, Stan Brakhage, Len Lye, Francis Alÿs, William Kentridge, Christian Boltanski and Kara Walker amongst others.

Today, the technical possibilities of photography have become extremely diverse. Traditional processes, often little understood even today, are being replaced by digital or hybrid technologies that are sometimes hard for the general public to grasp. With today’s photography rediscovering alternative traditional techniques, it is vital to analyse the technical knowledge that helps us to understand the exact nature of photographic works, both past and present. ACMI presents the world premiere of Star Voyager: Exploring Space on Screen, a major exhibition charting the history and future of space exploration as experienced through the moving image. Combining scientific and documentary footage with feature films and video artwork, the Star Voyager exhibition blurs the distinction between fact and fiction to examine how creative imagination and a desire for discovery have inspired artists and scientists through generations.
