MIDTOWN MANHATTAN - NEW YORK
12 - 14 SEPTEMBER 2008

minitek is new york ‘s electronic music + innovation festival , taking place on september 12-14. minitek is a new concept and combines the best of electronic music (featuring international top headliners as well as emerging talent) as well as innovation projects in the areas of art, design and technology .

minitek is going to be slightly different from other festivals you know, even very different at times. first of all because the festival combines two aspects: electronic music and innovation. while it seems pretty straight forward at first, you’ll see soon that the festival is going to explore innovation not only in respect to music but also to other forms of art, science and technology.

Over three days and two different locations, one outdoor and one indoor, the event will feature two music stages and experimental art and technology installations in the innovation pavillion throughout the day while visual artists will take advantage the night to showcase the latest in projection art on 360 degree screens around the performing stage and dance floor.

Featured innovation projects are by Daito ( Japan ), Marius Watz ( Norway ), Paul Prudence ( UK ), Burak Arikan ( Turkey ), Owen Vallis & Jordan Hochenbaum ( US ), C-TRL ( US ) and Abert Hwang ( US ). More to be announced.

The festival will also introduce progressive technologies such as RFID wristbands for participants and partnerships with Rock & WrapItUp (left-over food distribution to NYC’s homeless) and the EPA’s WasteWise program show the festival’s effort to be socially responsible.

An integral part of minitek is the village , which will serve as an exhibition area for a range of creative industry players. Organizers invited music technology companies to demonstrate their novelty products and softwares that will change the way music is created, and local as well as international record labels will let you come across their newest releases and freshly signed artists.

minitek organizers’ wanted it to be an experience; present sounds you haven’t heard and ideas you didn’t even know existed. a playground of sorts, in a city they love.
