HONG KONG CITY HALL - HONG KONG
20 OCTOBER - 2 NOVEMBER 2005

Kicked off with the theme “Culture as Play”, the Microwave Festival continues to emphasize the interaction of artistic production and theoretical reflection. The key program consists of two media art exhibitions, workshops, screenings, and a conference on new media.

The exhibitions at Hong Kong City Hall and Hong Kong Film Archive feature renowned media artists from both international and Hong Kong, who present media art works that are both playful and thought provoking. Their “games” not only challenge the limitations of existing technologies, but also the concept and meaning of online / TV games in relation to the development of media, art, culture and society.

The international video screenings at the Hong Kong Film Archive will present five programmes curated by local cultural scholar and video maker Linda Lai. German artist Niklas Roy will hold a workshop at Videotage to help participants re-construct the basic structure of his interactive game piece. Belgian author Katrien Jacobs will also give an interactive performance to introduce the playful idea in her book about sex performance art.
