The ICAS SUITE kicks off today at Monarch in Berlin with a program by the Todaysart Festival (Brussels & The Hague) featuring live and DJ-sets by three spearheads of Benelux electronic dance music: Conforce, Peter van Hoesen and 2562. At the same time Sperm Festival from Prague presents new Avant-pop from the Czech Republic, while Insomia! (Tromso) & Cynetart (Dresden) join forces to cook-up the Paloma with DJ-sets by Galina Hardgrove, Charlotte Bendiks, DJ JSN and Boska.
ICAS SUITE, that takes place from September 7 to 10 within the 2nd Berlin Music Week, 18 member festivals of the International Cities of Advanced Sound network from Europe and North and South America present a selection of the most exciting artists in their networks at Festsaal Kreuzberg, Monarch, West-Germany, the Paloma and the barnd new Blumenbar/Prince Charles club.
On very short notice, we were able to implement a whole new program by Ljubljana’s SONICA festival into the ICAS SUITE. This experimental night at West Germany on September 8 showcases transitory artists, based in Berlin and Ljubljana, that combine sound with lasers, microwaves and various other types of media.
The program includes the av-project “Climax” by SONICA’s curator Martin Bricelj Baraga and Slovenian electronic artist Octex, a solo concert by Jasmine Guffond from Minit / Organ Eye, and the performance “Synthoscope” by Servando Barreiro, that translates non-perceivable electromagnetic waves into sound.
In the audiovisual performance “Thermal” by Mario de Vega several objects will be modified using of a microwave oven and other custom hardware to sonify the high frequency spectrum produced by overheating the device. The second part of the night consists of live and DJ-sets by Octex, Errorist, Comfort Fit and DJ Storno.
