The Darklight Festival is very proud to be entering its 7th year in existence.
Based in the Digital Hub in Dublin 8 for the last 4 years, the Darklight Festival relocates to Dublins city centre taking it back to its roots where it all began in 1999; Temple Bar. Irelands premier festival for filmmakers, animators and artists has also decided to move dates from October to the summer dates of Thursday 22nd June to Thursday 6th July 2006. This years festival will centre around various Temple Bar venues including the Irish Film Centre (IFI) and Filmbase, bringing a host of stunning fresh new pieces of work from Irelands upcoming young filmmakers mixed with appearances from some of the worlds leading professional & experienced film directors.
Darklight began in 1999 as an opportunity for artists and filmmakers working with new technologies to show their work and share their ideas, and has grown to become one of the most important arts events of the year. Darklight encourages the contribution of local Irish filmmakers while also featuring international work. Over the years Darklight has gone from strength to strength. The festival now encompasses an online presence, a newsletter, year-round touring programme, a biennial film and video festival, regular exhibitions, workshops, conferences and seminars initiating debates on all aspects of digital art and filmmaking, from practice and technology to copyright, distribution and education.
2006 exclusive highlights to watch out for are selections from Electronic Arts Intermix NY, Processing.org, and Onedotzero 10th Anniversary selection.
