The WYE - Berlin
12 - 17 / 11 / 2013

Held annually since 2007, CYBERFEST is the first and biggest festival for technologically based art in Russia. Growing over years to become a massive international event, CYBERFEST 2012 rose to include over 80 artists held across St Petersburg’s top institutions: The State Hermitage Museum, Peter and Paul Fortress, KURYOKHIN MODERN ART CENTER, POLIGRAF Art Hall, Borey Gallery, and the Gallery of Experimental Sound.

This year, Cyberfest will be held in Berlin – marking the first time this important event is held outside St Petersburg… This significant move was designed to strengthen the cultural exchange between Art and Technology creatives within Russia and their international counterparts.

CYBERFEST 2013: “TIME & PLACE” will unite top innovators from around the world with the exhibit “Paradigm Shift” in combination with a survey of Russian Contemporary Art titled “Capital of Nowhere”. Programming including sound art, performances, a screening and public art will parallel the Berlin thriving, exciting Art and Tech community serving as its setting.

Progression through “TIME & PLACE”…

The moniker “Paradigm Shift” is used to describe nonconsecutive anomalies that transform the processes of intellectual thought. Such shifts fuel advancements of society. Not observable without context of history or time- these changes define ages on reflection. Artworks pushing their inherent creative medium from the present into the future were selected to contextualize what has been and what may be.

The exhibition, “CAPITAL OF NOWHERE”, is about life in a changing landscape during the Information Age…

In traditional societies, generations would come and go much faster than habitat would change. Catastrophes changed landscapes, be it natural or human in origin – from volcano eruption to migration to asteroid to cultivation. In contemporary times, variety is introduced quickly into landscapes by prosperity or adversity. Over the last century, industrialization, urbanization, revolution, wars, construction and reconstruction – each lead to a generation living under conditions different than previous ones.
