In the course of its nine-year history, club transmediale (CTM) has become one of the most important international festivals for adventurous music and a wide spectrum of artistic activities in the context of sound and club culture.
Under the catchword, Unpredictable, CTM.08 is currently engaging with artistic concepts that integrate all that is surprising and unforeseeable, accidents, mistakes and coincidences as a means of altering creative processes and discovering new aesthetic forms.
Under the theme Unpredictable, a nine-day programme of club-nights, concerts and unusual performances brings you the best in today’s electronic and experimental music. Internationally renowned artists such as Vitalic, Mouse on Mars, Detroit Grand Pubahs, Christian Marclay, Conrad Schnitzler, Alva Noto, Legendary Stardust Cowboy or Larry Heard will be sharing the stages at Berlin’s Maria am Ostbahnhof and other venues, accompanied by the most brilliant new discoveries of the year such as Klimek, Ebony Bones, Joakim, Efdemin, Chrome Hoof, Wolves in the Throne Room or Surkin.
Weekends are again reserved for the most exciting floor-fillers on the contemporary club music scene. Weekdays belong to experimental artists, pioneers of the paths between crackling electronic, acoustic sounds, Noise and heavy-bashing Metal.
International artists, specially commissioned to create innovative installations, will again transform Maria am Ostbahnhof into a fantastic Festival venue. Participants in workshops at the Ballhaus Naunynstrasse have a hands-on chance to build electronic music machines and instruments. Lectures, screenings and podium discussions offer deeper insight into current issues in experimental music production, and exhibitions in General Public and the Digital Arts Museum illustrate the connections between sound art and visual arts. The Sonic Wargame challenges musicians and Festival guests to take part in playful, unpredictable improvisations whilst the Instant-New-Rave-Party-Happening from London artists’ collective !WOWOW! guarantees a night full of surprises that will leave no-one unmoved.
A very special highlight of CTM.08 is the opening concert at the Volksbühne theatre with the maestro of Musique Concrète, Pierre Henry, who will present a two-hour program of new and old compositions. The performance by Mexican electronic musician, MURCOF, who will present his new “Cosmos” album under the celestial heavens of the Zeiss Planetarium also promises a top-notch concert experience.
As in previous years, CTM.08 takes place parallel to transmediale.08 – Conspire …, Berlin’s Festival for Art and Digital Culture (29th January – 3rd February 2008 in House of World Cultures).
