A MASTER CLASS FOR LIVE AUDIOVISAL ART

Cimatics, Brussels International Platform for Live A/V, presents a Masterclass Live Audiovisual Art, within the framework of the studio-program Experimental Media-art provided by the VAF (the FlemishAudiovisual Fund). 12 internationally renowned and specifically chosen artists and theoreticians from within the field of Live A/V engage to conduct these workshops. Cimatics is looking for 10 participants for these workshops and addresses young artists from within the fields of visual arts, music, media arts or performance arts. The Masterclass exists of several workshops in which the different aspects of the phenomenon Live A/V will be highlighted. Technical initiation, content contextualisation and specific hands-on experiments will be the key elements of these workshops.

Focus:

Because the biggest merit of live A/V is its cross-border and cross-disciplinary character the masterclass will challenge its participants to do just that: collaborate. This is how we stimulate: Each participant can apply for a 1000,- € working-budget(*). This budget should be used to realise an artistic project within the framework of the masterclass. However, a participant can only be eligible for this budget when he or she teams up with another participant. This combined project will then have a budget of 2000 €.

Candidates:

People who want to participate in the Masterclass will need to put up their candidature by means of a motivation consisting of a letter, CV and portfolio which should be sent to:

Cimatics/Masterclass
Onderwijsstraat 51
(B) 1070 Brussel

And a digital version to: bram.crevits@cimatics.com

This motivation should give an insight in the artistic motivation of the candidate with the main focus being on live audiovisual arts.

Deadline for Candidatures: October 10th. When selected, the candidates will be invited for a meeting with the purpose of making a definite selection of participants. The registration fee for the masterclass is 140 €. The goal of the masterclass:

This blog will function as a central tool within the masterclass. During and between the 4 different workshops, participants will not only be able to communicate with eachother through this blog, but also with their teachers and other people from within the field of live A/V. The goal of this blog is to generate an open-source effect: opening up the discussions from within the masterclass to the rest of the world in the first place. This will be done by daily text and video-reports during the workshops. Let this be a call for everyone to participate and join or start a debate. Eventually, this blog will be printed as a book. An additional DVD with the open-source versions (Creative Commons license) of the participants masterclass-projects will be available afterwards. So if you post something to this blog, you are co-authoring the book.
